Michelle and Tyler were married on the lawn of the Sequoia Mansion at the the end of May on a warm, early-summer day. This easy-going and fun-loving couple were referred to me by Tyler’s stepfather, Derik, who is a DJ and who MC’d their festivities, and Tyler’s mom Rebecca. I appreciate their support and am so happy I was available!
I love it when two individuals are so clearly and genuinely connected and this wedding was full of real emotion. From the sweet vows that Michelle and Tyler exchanged, to the tears of pride (and a little sadness) as Michelle’s mom watched her dance with dad, and the spontaneous rap that Tyler broke into in lieu of a garter hunt, there were lots of amazing moments at this wedding.
For me, this wedding just happened to coincide with the end of two photography workshops I had taken recently, the first with Ben and Erin Chrisman and the second with Cliff Mautner. Each have such completely different styles and my take-aways from my time with them were equally as diverse. From the Chrismans I was inspired to shoot wider and add visual layers to my images, creating story and interest. From Cliff I found I left more differently tuned-into the light in a scene, working in different and more dramatic ways with the amount of light available to me. I see impacts of both of their perspectives in how I photographed this wedding. Sometimes it takes being in the field, involved in the real, doing-ness of shooting, and outside of the workshop environment, for it all to come together. And looking at these images, I see small but interesting shifts. Being reinspired and continually evolving my art are some of the many reasons I think it’s important to attend at least one workshop a year. So happy Michelle and Tyler were the beneficiaries of my learnings!
Congratulations to Michelle and Tyler. I look forward to hearing more about your adventures together as husband and wife.
